Complete Scout Award

Beginning in 2008, Pack 287 is offering the Complete Scout patch. This is a custom designed patch to encourage boys to participate in a variety of pack activities. Scouting is about more than just building models or going camping.

In order to qualify for the Complete Scout Award, a boy must participate in the following:

75% Attendance at Den Meetings
75% Attendance at Pack Meetings
3 Cub Scout Campouts
3 Cub Scout Fundraisers
3 Cub Scout Service Projects
3 Cub Scout Skits
10 Miles Hiking at Cub Scout Events
Advance in Rank -OR- Recruit Another Boy to Scouting
3 Cub Scout Tournaments
2 Public Relations Events
2 Other Events

The pack will have a special patch made, which will be awarded at the December pack meeting.

Not all these activities have to be pack activities. For instance, district campouts and den hikes are fair game. However, the pack committee is committing to offering enough activities in 2008 to earn the award even if you can’t make all events.

Detailed explanations follow:
1 Attendance: Den Leaders or Denners will take attendance at each den meeting. Pack Volunteer will take attendance at each pack meeting, noting whether a proper uniform is worn.
2 Campouts: The pack will offer at least 3 campouts. Other opportunities with the district are the 2 Cub-N-Pal campouts (in April and November) and Spook-O-Ree (in October).
3 Fundraisers: Regular pack fundraisers include popcorn sale (in October), bake sale/link sale (day before the Super Bowl and summer), Lad N Dad cake auction (at Blue & Gold in February).
4 Service Projects: The pack offers at least 4 service project opportunities, including a Leave No Trace and/or World Conservation project. Den service projects count too.
5 Skits: A den may perform a skit at any pack meeting, as well as around the campfire at any campout.
6 Hiking: The pack offers day trips throughout the year (for hiking, fishing, boating, etc.) and most include an opportunity to hike. The dens are also encouraged to plan field trips which include hiking. Just record who attended and how far you hiked (to the nearest mile) and bring the record to an Awards & Advancement volunteer.
7 Rank Advancement: We want to award as many rank advancements as possible at the Blue & Gold Banquet in February so the whole family can see them earn rank. Graduation to the next Cub Scout rank is at the end of school. This may be extended by a month in special cases, such as for boys new to the pack.
8 Tournaments: The pack will host a Pinewood Derby (February), a Raingutter Regatta (summer), and a space derby for fall. With Sabine District we compet against other packs in a Marble Tournament and Bike Rodeo, in addition to the District Pinewood Derby and Raingutter Regatta.
9 Public Relations: Everything from Scout Sunday (February), to leading the Pledge of Allegiance at a football game, to helping new cub scouts joint the pack at Round-Up keeps up good relations with our community, and reminds our neighbors that cub scouting is alive and well.
10 Other Events: The pack will attend other events throughout the year, including college or professional sports games, Marsh Madness at McFadden, Day Camp, or just fun activities like bowling or Schlitterbahn.

Pack 287 is committed to providing a complete scouting experience for boys, including at least the following:

 - 4 Camp Outs

 - 4 Service Projects

 - 20 Miles of Hiking

 - 5 Tournaments
